For the Wontons
  • 1 package Wonton wrappers Can be swapped with dumpling skins if needed.
For the Cheesecake Filling
  • 8 ounces Cream cheese Ensure it's softened for easy mixing.
  • 0.5 cup Powdered sugar Granulated sugar can be used, but may affect texture.
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract Almond extract gives a unique twist.
  • 1 tablespoon Strawberry jam Optional, enhances flavor.
For Frying
  • 2 inches Vegetable oil Can be substituted with canola or sunflower oil.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a medium bowl, beat together cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth. Optionally, fold in strawberry jam or fresh diced strawberries.
  2. Lay out wonton wrappers and place about 1 teaspoon of filling in the center of each wrapper. Moisten edges with water and fold into a triangle, pressing to seal.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet to 350°F (175°C). Test with a small piece of wonton.
  4. Carefully fry 4 to 5 assembled wonton bites at a time for 1-2 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  5. Remove wontons and drain on paper towels, then let cool slightly.
Serving
  1. Serve the wonton bites warm, optionally dusted with powdered sugar or drizzled with chocolate sauce.
