  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika can use regular paprika
  • 4 cups green cabbage chopped
  • 4 cups beef broth can use vegetable broth for vegetarian version
  • salt to taste
  • black pepper to taste

  • fresh parsley optional for garnish

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium-high heat. Add 1 pound of lean ground beef and 4 cloves of minced garlic. Cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Stir in 1 diced yellow onion and cook until softened, around 3-4 minutes. Deglaze with a splash of beef broth if needed.
  3. Add 1 diced carrot, 28 ounces of crushed tomatoes, and 2 tablespoons of tomato paste. Stir well and cook for about 2 minutes.
  4. Stir in 1 cup of rinsed long grain white rice, 1 tablespoon of brown sugar, 2 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce, and 1 teaspoon of smoked paprika. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Add 4 cups of chopped green cabbage and 4 cups of beef broth. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer and cover. Cook for 20 minutes.
  6. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Garnish each bowl with chopped parsley before serving.
